Rotten Security

I promised this review and here it is. Fair warning, I’m not impressed.

Let’s get started with a quick summary. Someone pickpocketed an item from a J-Mod in Fist of the Guthix which enables J-Mod powers to be used on a character. The item is in Quick Chat and gives options like spawning items, teleporting anywhere and changing stats.

Wow. I mean seriously there is so much fail there. I’ll just list them first then explain in more detail at a later point.

1. J-Mods should not blindly follow players, especially into mini-games they shouldn’t be playing with players.
2. J-Mods should not routinely have this item on them.
3. J-Mods should never be pick-pocketable on server or client side.
4. Items should never be given such powers.
5. It should not be possible to use the item on the standard client.
6. It should not be possible to use the item on a non-mod account.
7. The item should loose all functions and info outside Jagex HQ.
8. No single system should enable access to all such systems.
9. Systems should prevent any use of the item, server-side
10. Systems should automatically ban any normal player in possession of items, server-side, with 0 warning.
11. There should be no disguise of this item to prevent claims of non-knowledge and J-Mod inattentiveness.
12. Players involved in leaking it should be banned forever on all Jagex games via all possible methods.

There is fallibility from almost every single team within Jagex for this.
